At our school, pupils have access to at least two hours of PE every week.
We teach and develop five areas of activity as set out in the National Curriculum: Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Athletics and Swimming. Each week, your child will have one indoor PE lesson and one outdoor PE lesson (weather permitting).
At St James', children are given the opportunity to learn how to swim in our local public swimming pool. By the end of year 6, children are expected to be able to swim 25m independently.
Sports taught include Football, Tag Rugby, Netball, Dodge ball, Tennis and Athletics. All pupils have the opportunity to take part in a range of sporting competitions within the school; between classes and year groups, and with other schools. As a whole school, we have also taken on the healthy incentive of the daily mile. The children either complete this as a walk or a run, promoting a healthy activity each day as well as significantly aiding their concentration in the classroom environment.
We also provide a range of extra-curricular sports clubs after school to continue to promote sport throughout every year group, as well as a healthy attitude to living and learning at school and at home.
