School Grounds

Action Plans

Year One have been busy keeping our school field clean and safe for wildlife during May, by litter picking. What a team!

A warm thank you to Mr Reynolds for donating a bird table and two bird boxes to encourage birds to visit our environment.

Year 5's efforts to improve St James' school grounds

Llullaq and Indigo class have decided that we need to revamp the grounds by making some changes. We started to clean the fence ready to paint and up-cycle the signs.

We wanted to include more bird tables and boxes in our school grounds. Mr Cracknell kindly helped us position them in ideal places.

Reaching out to the community for support

Year 5s wrote letters to store managers in and around Colchester. We asked them for support by donating materials or products to maintain and enrich our school environment (to encourage wildlife even more to visit).

Garden of Eden Ground Force Day

During the school holidays, a group of teachers and children came into school to begin to transform the school's Garden of Eden.

They needed to clear raised beds of weeds, build new raised beds and create a new area for the statue of Mary.

It was a lot of hard work but the team had a wonderful day and achieved a lot in a small amount of time (they even managed to sneak in time for a McDonalds lunch!).

They all felt very proud of what they had achieved and are looking forward to watching it change and develop over time.

Year 6 are transforming our outside area alongside our Art focus for the term. We are hoping to create a mural dedicated to the Shell of St. James the Great.

Colchester offers a helping hand

After posting off our letters to managers across Colchester, we received some responses. Tesco, Hythe and Poplar Nursery in Stanway donated vouchers for us to enhance our environment and encourage more wildlife on our school grounds.

We gratefully received: durable and long-lasting pots, a bird bath, hanging basket flowers, a variety of herbs, compost and plant food. We are truly thankful for these.
